Algaze Synagogue was constructed by Algazi Family in 1724. It’s the second biggest Synagogue after Beth Izrael Synagogue in Izmir and it’s located in Karataş. The characteristic which separates Algaze Synagogue from the others is, it doesn’t have ”Azara” (the part which belongs to women). According to some resources, the reason for this is a Rabbi twinking at a lady who was sitting at ”Azara” during a ritual. After this, Chief Rabbi got very angry and ordered the ”Azara” part to be demolished, thus The Synagogue took its last shape. Algaze Synagogue was affected by the big fire which had happened in Kemeralti in 1841, however, with the restorations made in 1889, 1901, and 2007, it has been keeping its functionality.
