Izmir’s first Archaeology Museum was opened in 1927 in Basmane in Ayavukla Church. In those times in the Museum, works from prehistoric times till the Byzantine Empire were exhibited. In the following years, because of the newly found historical remains, there was a need to open a new Museum. Thus a new modern Museum was constructed in Konak Bahribaba Park. This big triplex structure has been serving as Archaeology Museum since 1984. With its big exhibit saloons, labs, storehouses, library, conference saloon, and huge garden, it was designed to answer any kind of need.
